Swine flu masks, shouldn't we be given them to stop it spreading, cos people arent covering their mouths?

Its all well and good us washing our hands, but what about people who continue to cough and sneeze in public and in others faces without covering their mouths???Swine flu masks, shouldn't we be given them to stop it spreading, cos people arent covering their mouths?
I tried wearing a S10 respirator (gas mask) and full NBC suit the other day. Was kinda uncomfortable but with this flu going about I ain't taking any chances. Problem is, I went to Tescos to do a bit of shopping and they threw me out. Wouldn't let me in. I did explain that the gear I am wearing is all brand new and I didn't just turn up from a decontamination site in order to a buy a sandwich. But they told me i would panic the shoppers and told me to return when I have suitable clothes on. ROFL!!

In every other outbreak zone they are using them still. So if they are so ineffective then why do other countries continue to use face masks? Obviously there are people like Rich B who think they look ridiculous, to him it doesn't matter even if there is a 5% chance in helping to avoid the disease. He wouldn't wear it because he probably dresses in full Gucci just to buy a sandwich from a corner shop.

The other reason why we are not encouraged to utilise them is to prevent panic. Try wearing one and going into your local supermarket and see what people's reaction is. You will either be getting strange looks or be asked to leave.

To sum it up. Fashion is more important than preventing outbreak, and economy is more important than saving lives.Swine flu masks, shouldn't we be given them to stop it spreading, cos people arent covering their mouths?
it has been all over the media and in Dr's surgeries everywhere they are asking people who are displaying signs of swine flu to stay home and ring the dr helplines for advice but people are returning to school work etc and spreading the flu to every body else if people would only follow the advice set out i got told that the masks are not worth it as it only stops you from spreading your germs to other people not other people spreading them to you i asked the dr were you got them issued
I think they should be issued, yes, but I understand that they have a life of only 2 hrs and if they get wet no life at all. And it rains all the time!

As for coughing, sneezing and spitting (which used to be a fineable offence) nobody seems to know to cover their mouths or to care.

It really doesn't look too good if this virus mutates, we don't have the basic good manners which we had in 1918.
You can buy surgical masks (which is all they are) at any good pharmacy or medical supply store if it worries you that much. But seriously, unless you're very young, very old, or in poor health for some other reason, practicing good hand washing is enough.
Masks don't help and if you know someone is coughing with their mouth open well.. Run!!

Ahaha, no don't worry anyway, swine flu isn't as deadly as people are making it out to be. If you haven't got any serious health conditions, you'll be fine. ^^
Wasting your time with a mask, its just an inconvenience, if you get it, tough, but would'nt worry about it, unless you have uderlying problems, it just like ordinary flu, and you do not wear face masks every winter, do you?
My son reckons I look better wearing a mask, but i still refuse, with regard to swine flu, I am pig sick of hearing about it as lets face it you have to die of something.
Ah yes.Because they work so well in Asia.Wear a mask for eight hours then eat at a restaurant that doesn't have running water much less a concept of handwashing after releaving oneself.
Such masks only remain effective barriers for a matter of minutes.
No, for the simple reasons that (a) they don't work, and (b) they look ridiculous.
What`s the point,,more die from common winter flu than this flash in the pan stuff,,what`s all the hype about?nothing special,
No point. Masks can't possibly stop the spread of an airborne virus.
S'sooooooooooo RUDE!

Dragged up, not brought up!
